Treatment
Treatment may take place in the most appropriate place for the child
– that could be at school/nursery or at home. Midlands OT
encourage parents, carers and school staff to be fully involved to
increase everyone’s understanding of the child’s difficulties and so
we become partners in achieving goals and long term results that
can be seen across the child’s daily life.
Treatment should be fun for your child, a variety of equipment is
used and generally most children thoroughly enjoy therapy. As well
as targeting the specific goals therapy also aims to increase your
child’s confidence and self esteem.
Treatment is usually preceded by an assessment by a
Midlands OT therapist and will have clear goals which
have been agreed with parents or schools. Therapy is
tailored in terms of frequency depending on your
requirements, and can range from blocks of weekly
individual sessions, to more sporadic visits to set up
programs for parents or school staff to carry out. Therapy is
always reviewed regularly, using appropriate outcome
measures, to monitor effectiveness.
Training can be offered to the staff working with your child
to help them understand your child’s needs and work
effectively with them.
